Dear St. Louis BMW Club members,
Imagine sitting in a garage full of specialty automobiles, eating, drinking, and socializing with fellow BMW enthusiasts. Placing bids on silent auction items and buying tickets to “win” goodies provided by the event’s sponsors, all in support of the Street Survival Program. And ogling the cars on display after the formal portion of the Party. That’s exactly the experience shared by over 90 Club members this past January 16th at the annual Holiday Party held for the 4th year at the automotive ambiance-rich Passing Lane Motors!
Sponsors for the night included Autohaus BMW, Newbold BMW, JML Audio, Clear AutoBra, Bimmerworld, Griot’s Garage, MVP Track Time, and BMW SCCA! Catering was again provided by Poor Richard’s Restaurant and Sports Club (Always Great Food!).
Duke Niedringhaus was the cowbell award winner, for his continued participation in and sponsorship of the Street Survival Program.
As the night drew to a close, attendees expressed their appreciation for another fun evening. Enjoy the year and we will see you at the next Holiday Party.
And now some personal reflections: I’ve been doing this since the Club was meeting at Growlers Pub in Sunset Hills, our Club Logo was King Louie in M colors, and Schlafly’s Bottle Works’ back room was the upgrade for room space.
The Board had brought me on, as I kept showing up to meetings, (with a Mazda RX7). Tom Allen must have felt sorry for me, and persuaded the rest of the Board to give me a job. As “Junior” member of the Board, my duty was to arrange the Holiday Party. I told them that was like putting a wall flower in charge of Prom. My biggest fear was that I’d mess up the arrangements badly enough that nobody would want to attend!
I’ve always enjoyed the Holiday Party, no matter where it was held. Lots of people who you’ll see at various events, but maybe can’t always make the regular club meetings. A nice chance to renew friendships and encourage all to participate in the upcoming club events. It’s kind of an “End Cap” to the Holiday Season (Whew!), and a “kick-off” for the New Year (What shows/tours/track events you going to?) Some longtime members (before me!) of the club came out for the event, including John Barhydt & Damon Peake, Ken Close.
I’m still a loyal Club Member, but I think we need new ideas to keep the holiday party as well as other social event “Fresh”! (the Board has completely changed over since I started!) So I am very happy that Chrissy Price has stepped up to replace me. She’s already had several suggestions, that I wonder why I didn’t think of them. So the Holiday Party is definitely in good hands, and I will enjoy helping out in any way I can!
I really want to thank all of you who have attended, as that was my best reward. (And that you kept coming back!)
Thank You to all the Board Members past and present who put up with me over the last 10 years!
If any of you are hesitant about stepping into a role of club organizer, please do not be intimidated! If a track rat/ wall flower can do it, I assure you that your efforts will make this club that much stronger!
See you at a meeting/track/tour!
